I can has literacy?

Sat Oct 24, 2009, 8:26 PM
  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: Evolution of the Daleks from Doctor Who
  • Reading: The Andromeda Strain (again...)
  • Watching: Star Trek (lol cowboy planet)
A LIT MEME FOR ALL THE BOOK NERDS:

. So, you can read! Congrats!
Are you reading a book right now? How far are you into it and what do you think so far? If you're not, what was the last book you read and how did you feel about it?
I'm reading The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton for the second time. It's just as awesome as the first time. And I'm reading Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene. So far, I like it a lot, it's interesting.

. Do you have a favorite book? Do you have... a book you really liked, at least?
House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. holy shit.

. What would you say is your favorite genre to read? What to tend to steer away from?
I like horror a lot, if it's actually scary (which it never is, creepypasta is better than most horror literature). Psychological Thrillers too I guess, I don't like OMG BLUD AND GUTS ISNT THIS HARDXCORE. Gore isn't scary. Vampires aren't scary. Any monster that I can see is not scary. And I like Sci-Fi because Star Trek.

. Do you read more fiction or non-fiction/information books?
Non-fiction. Truth is far, far stranger than fiction.

. How about a favorite author, or perhaps a few?
Crichtoncrichtoncrichtoncrichtoncrichton

. Have you read any terrible books? Something you'd recommend staying away from?
Apparently this will get my throat slit, but I thought Twilight was quite poorly written. Interview with the Vampire was terrible (I love the movie though, strange). Books based off big Hollywood movies suck *cough*Transformers*/cough*

. Do you reread books, or is once enough? Any exceptions so far?
I've read these twice: Jurassic Park, Survival of the Sickest (three times), The Cosmic Connection, random Doctor Who novel (it's upstairs I don't want to go up there to see what it was called) and The Hobbit.

. What were some of your favorite books as a child?
Stuff by Beatrix Potter, I think. The Narnia series. Many books from the school's library about UFOs and other occultish things.

. Do you usually pick books from the kids, teen, young adult, or adult books? How old are you, if you don't mind?
Sewenteen. Adult, I suppose. Non-fiction doesn't usually get a Teen or YA section.

. Do you buy books much or mostly just borrow?
Buy, from the thrift stores usually. Cheap and good for the enviroment :)

. Have you read any books after seeing them in movie form? Which did you enjoy more?
I read Jurassic Park after seeing the movies. I like the book slightly more.

. What about reading the book before there was a movie? How did you feel about the movie? Did you even bother seeing it?
Ummmm... Do comics count? I read the Watchmen before the movie came out. Movie was awesome and win.

. Do you read any other forms of literature aside from novels? Such as graphic novels, comics, (fan fiction???) etc.?
Graphic Novels, Comics, Fan Fiction. Mostly slash fanfiction that's been poorly written by 13 year old girls, to snicker. I'm terrible, I know.

. What is a book you want to read, but haven't yet? What intrigues you about it?
All of Dawkins' other books, mostly The Blind Watchmaker, because the title is cool.

. If you could rewrite the end of one book (or any other part, I suppose), which would you choose? If you were satisfied with every book you read's end, yay.
The Outsiders; Johnny lives.

If you can think of one, name a book that made you:
- cry: I can't think of one...

- laugh: Why Do Men Have Nipples? forgot who it's by.

- think, in a deeper sense than the obvious: House of Leaves, Jurassic Park (in a more lolphysics kind of way)

- feel pure happiness: Jurassic Park because dinosaurs

- become so addicted you put off everything in order to finish it: House of Leaves, I took it to every class last year even though it's very heavy and took up much desk space.

- die of boredom: Twilight. I'm sorry! It's dull!

- learn something new: The Cosmic Connection (Sagan's awesome he says Vulcan instead of Volcanic and I giggle), Survival of the Sickest, Why Do Men Have Nipples, The Sociopath Next Door, Strange Matters, 13 Things that Don't Make Sense, Whispers: The Voices of Paranoia,

- squirm with squickiness: I'm going to take that to mean "grossed out", hmm, dunno.

- squirm with glee: Jurassic Park!

- very embarrassed to be reading it: Nothing I can think of!

- angry: The Sociopath Next Door. Bastards.
TL;DR: House of Leaves is an awesome novel, Survival of the Sickest is EXTREMELY INTERESTING, Crichton is awesome, truth is stranger than fiction
And Pokemon Soul Silver is still an amazing game.

I irritate myself.
:iconindigo-wendigo:
To play or to watch?

I like playing floor hockey, but that's probably because I'm not very good at skating.

I like watching any kind of hockey live, but not on TV.
